Anreise: Es geht nicht immer so wie man es sich wünscht. Aber unsere Abreise von Zuhause war spät. So konnten wir noch knapp die Fähre nach Texel (Ankunft 20:45h) erreichen. Für die knapp 330 km von Münster nach Denhelder haben wir knapp 5h gebraucht. Um 21:30h geht täglich die letzte Fähre. Das einchecken gestaltet sich unkompliziert. Anreisen; 93,- € zahlen und man hat ein Ticket für die Hin- und Rückfahrt für ein WW Gespann. (Foto).
Eng wird es das erste Mal in Denhelder. Da wir außerhalb der Hauptsaison angereist sind, waren die Straßen um diese Uhrzeit sehr leer. Dürfte in der Hochsaison anders sein. Die letzten 5 km von der südlichen Stadtgrenze bis zum Fähranleger gehen durch die Ortschaft. Mit einem 2.50m breiten und 8m langen WW sehr sportlich.
Die Überfahrt mit der Fähre dauert in der Regel ca. 20 Min.! Bei der Überfahrt hatten wir einen super Vollmond und eine spiegelglatte See, mildes Wetter und eine herrliche Sicht.
Doch zu dieser Zeit war die Fähre (3 Etagen) noch überraschend voll. Vorsorglich hatten wir bei dem Campingplatz angerufen und uns vergewissert, dass wir auch noch auf den Platz kommen. Zu unserer Überraschung hat dieser bis 22:30h geöffnet und ist auf eine Anreise, mit der letzte Fähre eingerichtet.
Die Weiterfahrt von der Fähre bis zum Platz (ca. 10 km) dauert um diese Uhrzeit ca. 25Min. Um 22:15 erreichten wir den Platz. Auch in de Koog geht es eng zu. Viele Kurven benötigen eine erhöhte Aufmerksamkeit, um mit dem Gespann keine Bordsteinkanten „mitzunehmen“! Auch die Anhöhe zum Platz ist nicht besonders breit und wird auch von Fahrradfahrern genutzt. Vorsicht ist geboten!
Trotz der späten Anreise wurden wir freundlich empfangen und der Trecker, welcher uns noch auf unseren Stellplatz bugsierte, stand bereit.
Aber aufgepasst, durch die naturbelassene Umgebung sind die Zufahrtswege zu den Stellplätzen sehr eng. Wenn dann noch ein Gast unüberlegt sein Auto an der Seite parkt, wird es sehr eng…☹!
Die Zufahrtswege sind als Klinkerverbundpflaster nicht mehr immer glatt. Seitlich der Wege ist der Sand dermaßen weich und feinkörnig, dass eine eigene Aufstellung überhaupt nicht möglich ist. Auch sollte man beachten, dass es mit einem normalen PKW sein kann sich fest zu fahren.
Aber jetzt erst einmal (23:15h) war schlafen angesagt und wenn man alles fertig hat…, ein Traum, kurbeln fertig. Für den nächsten Tag ist dann in Ruhe aufbauen geplant.

Unfortunately, the ground in front of the RV was not exactly level and very soft! It is advisable to have a " folding spade " with you here. Unfortunately, we didn't have one. Tent pegs, that is a fascinating topic! Normal tent pegs are of no use on such soft ground . A friend recommended using special " wooden pegs ". Clever plan. Even having a tent carpet under the RV is no better. Our RV was facing west-east. This meant that the wind underneath the RV pushed through the "waterproofing tarpaulin" on the wheel. You can weigh this tarpaulin down with bags filled with sand. Our pitch only has electricity (1,300W / 6A) and a satellite connection. Located in the dunes, the pitches near the paved paths have an electricity connection.
After setting up the awning, we explored the site and the immediate surroundings . Located close to the " main dune ," it's only a short walk ( 200m ) to the beach . Paal 19 is one of many restaurants located at regular intervals along the beach for about 2km. These are easy to reach with a leisurely stroll . We really liked the restaurants Paal 15, 17, and 21. The beach club also has its charm . It's open until the last guest has left.
The campsite is a long , "two-part" area. Dogs are not allowed on the north side . Dogs can roam freely on the beach without a leash. The site is very dog-friendly. However, dog owners are asked to protect the natural dunes and not allow dogs to run loose there or on the site. It's about 500m to the center . It's not easy to get there by bike, as the path goes up and down a hill. You'll have to push your bike if you don't have an e-bike...
The annual " Texel Culinary " event took place on the arrival weekend (September 13, 2019), this time in De Koog . It 's definitely worth attending this event if you're planning a stay!
The beach was a dream; endless (empty) when we were there outside of school holidays. But that was also due to the weather, as the temperatures were no longer summery. Which brings me to my next topic: the peace and quiet...; no crowds at the restrooms, etc.! Not to be misunderstood, we're parents ourselves, but this year was the second time we've gone outside of school holidays. We enjoy this "luxury." Even the cold weather—it was 25°C when we arrived—was still bearable despite the temperature around 14°C. The sun was shining, and a stiff breeze created high waves. If you like the North Sea, you'll love it.

Worth knowing : Even though the site is only listed with 3 stars by the ADAC and other platforms, we believe it deserves 4-5. Of course, the site is natural, and our Dutch neighbors know how to set up camp in an environmentally conscious way. No pitch is paved or level. A holding tank is required for the "grey" wastewater . Charcoal barbecues are not permitted on the site.
Many pitches are reserved for tent campers and are inaccessible with a caravan anyway. Cars must be parked in the parking lot in front after setting up camp. Access is via automatic license plate recognition . However, it didn't work for us right away. Probably because it was dark when we first checked in! Darkness: The site is rather poorly lit. It's always a good idea to carry a small flashlight. The pitches away from the paved paths are particularly poorly lit.
The sanitary facilities : They are relatively basic but clean. There's an industrial dishwasher in every building, which takes a relatively quick five minutes to clean. What's probably lacking are sinks, showers, and toilets. This is certainly not ideal during peak season.
Exploring the surrounding area : The Aviation Museum is highly recommended (because I'm a pilot myself...). Unfortunately, many of the documentation is only in Dutch. English would certainly be helpful!
During our stay, we discovered a superb steakhouse. The " Steakhouse EILAND " offers excellent value for money. It's located in a side passage across from a large ice cream parlor in the center of Dorpstraat. Right next door is a fish market with a large selection of fresh fish. The price is higher for the freshness, but it's fair . You have to like fish to enjoy it.

There you can use the sauna and the hotel's own swimming pool for €25 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Don't forget your swimming trunks! One thing you have to like is sand... ? It's everywhere, and when it's raining or the morning dew is a bit damp, it sticks to your shoes and is almost impossible to keep out of the awning!

Der Aufenthalt: Wie man sehen kann, sind die Räder ganz schön eingesunken (Foto), aber „Gott sei Dank“ stand der WW auf Anhieb gerade… ?! Leider war der Untergrund vor dem WW nicht unbedingt eben und sehr weich! Hier empfiehlt es sich einen „Klappspaten“ dabei zu haben. Hatten wir leider nicht. Heringe, dass ist ein spannendes Thema! Mit den normalen Heringen kommt man bei dem weichen Untergrund nicht weiter. Ein Freund hatte den Tipp gegeben, spezielle „Holzheringe“ zu verwenden. Schlauer Plan. Auch wenn ein Zeltteppich liegt ist es nicht besser. Unser WW war in West- Ost Richtung ausgerichtet. Dadurch kam es vor, dass der Wind unter dem WW durch die „Abdichtungsplane“ am Rad drückte. Mit Sand gefüllten Säcken kann man diese Plane beschweren. Unser Stellplatz ist nur mit Strom (1.300W / 6A) und einen SAT-Anschluß versehen. In den Dünen gelegen, haben die Stellplätze in der Nähe der befestigten Wege einen Stromanschluß.
Nach dem Aufbau des Vorzeltes haben wir dann den Platz und die nähere Umgebung erkundet. Nah hinter der „Hauptdüne“ gelegen, sind es nur kurze Wege (200m) bis zum Strand. Paal 19, dies ist ein Restaurant von vielen, die entlang des Strandes in regelmäßigen Abständen ca. 2 km super liegen. Diese kann man mit entspannten Spaziergängen gut erreichen. Uns haben die Restaurants Paal 15, 17, 21 gut gefallen. Auch der Beachclub hat seinen Charme. Hier ist auch so lange geöffnet bis „der letzte Gast“ gegangen ist.
Bei dem Campingplatz handelt es sich um ein langgestrecktes, „zweigeteiltes“ Gelände. Auf der Nordseite sind Hunde nicht erlaubt. Am Strand können sich Hunde auch ohne Leine frei bewegen. Platz ist sehr Hundefreundlich. Der Hundehalter ist aber aufgefordert die naturbelassenen Dünen zu schützen und keine Hunde dort und auf dem Platz frei laufen zu lassen. Bis zum Zentrum sind es ca. 500m. Mit dem Fahrrad nicht einfach, da dieser Weg über eine Anhöhe, rauf und runter führt. Schieben ist angesagt, wenn man kein E-Bike hat… ?.
Am Anreisewochenende (13.09.2019) fand das jährliche „Texel Culiniar“ Event, diesmal in De Koog statt. Es lohnt sich bei einem geplanten Aufenthalt, dieses Event zu besuchen!
Der Strand ein Traum, zu unserer Zeit außerhalb der Ferien endlos (leer). Ist aber auch dem Wetter geschuldet, da die Temperaturen ja nicht mehr sommerlich waren. Da komme ich zum nächsten Thema; Die Ruhe…; kein Gedränge bei den Sanitäranlagen, etc.! Nicht das es falsch verstanden wird, wir sind selbst Eltern, aber in diesem Jahr das zweite Mal außerhalb der Ferien losgefahren. Wir genießen diesen „Luxus“. Auch das kalte Wetter, bei der Ankunft waren es noch 25°C, war trotz der Temperaturen um 14°C immer noch auszuhalten. Die Sonne schien und eine „steife Brise“ sorgte für einen hohen Wellengang. Wer die Nordsee mag, wird es lieben.
Wissenswertes: Auch wenn der Platz beim ADAC und anderen Plattformen nur mit 3 Sternen gelistet ist, hat er nach unserer Auffassung 4 – 5 verdient. Klar, der Platz ist naturbelassen und unsere holländischen Nachbarn verstehen es, sich in der Natur umweltbewußt einzurichten. Kein Stellplatz ist befestigt und eben. Für das „graue“ Abwasser ist ein Auffangtank erforderlich. Mit Holzkohle darf auf dem Platz nicht gegrillt werden.
Viele Stellplätze sind Zeltcampern vorbehalten und sowieso mit einem WW nicht zu erreichen. PKW’s müßen nach dem Aufbau auf dem vorgelagerten Parkplatz abgestellt werden. Der Zugang erfolgt über eine automatische Kennzeichenerkennung. Hatte bei uns allerdings nicht auf Anhieb funktioniert. Lag wahrscheinlich an der Dunkelheit beim ersten einchecken! Dunkelheit: Die Ausleuchtung des Platzes ist eher spärlich. Es empfiehlt sich immer eine kleine Taschenlampe dabei zu haben. Gerade die Stellplätze abseits der befestigten Wege sind schlecht beleuchtet!
Die Sanitäranlagen: Sie sind relativ einfach, aber sauber, es gibt in jedem Gebäude eine Industriespülmaschine, mit 5 Min. eine relativ schnelle, saubere Sache. Was vermutlich zu wenig sind, sind Spülbecken, Duschen, Toiletten. In der Hochsaison bestimmt nicht immer optimal.
Umgebung erkunden: Empfehlenswert kann man das Luftfahrtmuseum nennen (weil selbst Flieger...). Leider ist es an vielen Stellen nur in holländischer Schrift dokumentiert. Englisch wäre sicherlich hilfreich!
Während unseres Aufenthalts haben wir ein super Steakhouse entdeckt. Das „Steakhouse EILAND“ ist vom Preis / Leistungsverhältnis super. Es liegt ein einer Seitenpassage gegenüber einer großen Eisdiele im Zentrum der „Dorpstraat“. Gleich daneben gibt es ein Fischhalle mit einer großen Auswahl an frischem Fisch. Der Preis für die Frische ist höher, aber gerecht. Man muß Fisch mögen, um ihn genießen zu können.
Fazit: Die Bewertungen zu diesem Platz findet ihr im Internet zu Hauf. Diesen Campingplatz sollte man erlebt haben, die Insel bietet viele Attraktivitäten und Freizeitmöglichkeiten. Das Wetter kann für die Nordsee typisch auch schon mal rau sein. Gerade am Ende des Sommers, der Erholungswert ist aber nicht minder. Für diese Zeit hätte ich mir einen Wellnessbereich mit Sauna, in der Nähe des Platzes gewünscht. Es gibt aber das Hotel „TEXEL“ mit einem Spa- und Wellnessbereich, in der Nähe des Flugplatzes. Hier kann man für 25,-€ von 9:00 bis 21:00h die Sauna und das Hotel eigenen Schwimmbad genutzt werden. Badehose nicht vergessen! Was man mögen muss ist Sand… ? denn dieser ist überall und wenn es dann noch regnet oder der Morgentau etwas feucht ist, klebt er an den Schuhen und aus dem Vorzelt ist er kaum zu verbannen!

Eng wird es das erste Mal in Denhelder. Da wir außerhalb der Hauptsaison angereist sind, waren die Straßen um diese Uhrzeit sehr leer. Dürfte in der Hochsaison anders sein. Die letzten 5 km von der südlichen Stadtgrenze bis zum Fähranleger gehen durch die Ortschaft. Mit einem 2.50m breiten und 8m langen WW sehr sportlich.
Die Überfahrt mit der Fähre dauert in der Regel ca. 20 Min.! Bei der Überfahrt hatten wir einen super Vollmond und eine spiegelglatte See, mildes Wetter und eine herrliche Sicht.
Doch zu dieser Zeit war die Fähre (3 Etagen) noch überraschend voll. Vorsorglich hatten wir bei dem Campingplatz angerufen und uns vergewissert, dass wir auch noch auf den Platz kommen. Zu unserer Überraschung hat dieser bis 22:30h geöffnet und ist auf eine Anreise, mit der letzte Fähre eingerichtet.
Die Weiterfahrt von der Fähre bis zum Platz (ca. 10 km) dauert um diese Uhrzeit ca. 25Min. Um 22:15 erreichten wir den Platz. Auch in de Koog geht es eng zu. Viele Kurven benötigen eine erhöhte Aufmerksamkeit, um mit dem Gespann keine Bordsteinkanten „mitzunehmen“! Auch die Anhöhe zum Platz ist nicht besonders breit und wird auch von Fahrradfahrern genutzt. Vorsicht ist geboten!
Trotz der späten Anreise wurden wir freundlich empfangen und der Trecker, welcher uns noch auf unseren Stellplatz bugsierte, stand bereit.
Aber aufgepasst, durch die naturbelassene Umgebung sind die Zufahrtswege zu den Stellplätzen sehr eng. Wenn dann noch ein Gast unüberlegt sein Auto an der Seite parkt, wird es sehr eng…☹!
Die Zufahrtswege sind als Klinkerverbundpflaster nicht mehr immer glatt. Seitlich der Wege ist der Sand dermaßen weich und feinkörnig, dass eine eigene Aufstellung überhaupt nicht möglich ist. Auch sollte man beachten, dass es mit einem normalen PKW sein kann sich fest zu fahren.
Aber jetzt erst einmal (23:15h) war schlafen angesagt und wenn man alles fertig hat…, ein Traum, kurbeln fertig. Für den nächsten Tag ist dann in Ruhe aufbauen geplant.
The stay : As you can see, the wheels have sunk in quite a bit (photo), but "thank goodness" the RV was upright straight away... ?! Unfortunately, the ground in front of the RV was not exactly level and very soft! It is advisable to have a " folding spade " with you here. Unfortunately, we didn't have one. Tent pegs, that is a fascinating topic! Normal tent pegs are of no use on such soft ground . A friend recommended using special " wooden pegs ". Clever plan. Even having a tent carpet under the RV is no better. Our RV was facing west-east. This meant that the wind underneath the RV pushed through the "waterproofing tarpaulin" on the wheel. You can weigh this tarpaulin down with bags filled with sand. Our pitch only has electricity (1,300W / 6A) and a satellite connection. Located in the dunes, the pitches near the paved paths have an electricity connection.
After setting up the awning, we explored the site and the immediate surroundings . Located close to the " main dune ," it's only a short walk ( 200m ) to the beach . Paal 19 is one of many restaurants located at regular intervals along the beach for about 2km. These are easy to reach with a leisurely stroll . We really liked the restaurants Paal 15, 17, and 21. The beach club also has its charm . It's open until the last guest has left.
The campsite is a long , "two-part" area. Dogs are not allowed on the north side . Dogs can roam freely on the beach without a leash. The site is very dog-friendly. However, dog owners are asked to protect the natural dunes and not allow dogs to run loose there or on the site. It's about 500m to the center . It's not easy to get there by bike, as the path goes up and down a hill. You'll have to push your bike if you don't have an e-bike...
The annual " Texel Culinary " event took place on the arrival weekend (September 13, 2019), this time in De Koog . It 's definitely worth attending this event if you're planning a stay!
The beach was a dream; endless (empty) when we were there outside of school holidays. But that was also due to the weather, as the temperatures were no longer summery. Which brings me to my next topic: the peace and quiet...; no crowds at the restrooms, etc.! Not to be misunderstood, we're parents ourselves, but this year was the second time we've gone outside of school holidays. We enjoy this "luxury." Even the cold weather—it was 25°C when we arrived—was still bearable despite the temperature around 14°C. The sun was shining, and a stiff breeze created high waves. If you like the North Sea, you'll love it.

Worth knowing : Even though the site is only listed with 3 stars by the ADAC and other platforms, we believe it deserves 4-5. Of course, the site is natural, and our Dutch neighbors know how to set up camp in an environmentally conscious way. No pitch is paved or level. A holding tank is required for the "grey" wastewater . Charcoal barbecues are not permitted on the site.
Many pitches are reserved for tent campers and are inaccessible with a caravan anyway. Cars must be parked in the parking lot in front after setting up camp. Access is via automatic license plate recognition . However, it didn't work for us right away. Probably because it was dark when we first checked in! Darkness: The site is rather poorly lit. It's always a good idea to carry a small flashlight. The pitches away from the paved paths are particularly poorly lit.
The sanitary facilities : They are relatively basic but clean. There's an industrial dishwasher in every building, which takes a relatively quick five minutes to clean. What's probably lacking are sinks, showers, and toilets. This is certainly not ideal during peak season.
Exploring the surrounding area : The Aviation Museum is highly recommended (because I'm a pilot myself...). Unfortunately, many of the documentation is only in Dutch. English would certainly be helpful!
During our stay, we discovered a superb steakhouse. The " Steakhouse EILAND " offers excellent value for money. It's located in a side passage across from a large ice cream parlor in the center of Dorpstraat. Right next door is a fish market with a large selection of fresh fish. The price is higher for the freshness, but it's fair . You have to like fish to enjoy it.

I would have liked a wellness area with a sauna near the site during this time of year. However, there is the Hotel "TEXEL" with a spa and wellness area near the airport. There you can use the sauna and the hotel's own swimming pool for €25 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Don't forget your swimming trunks! One thing you have to like is sand... ? It's everywhere, and when it's raining or the morning dew is a bit damp, it sticks to your shoes and is almost impossible to keep out of the awning!

There you can use the sauna and the hotel's own swimming pool for €25 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Don't forget your swimming trunks! One thing you have to like is sand... ? It's everywhere, and when it's raining or the morning dew is a bit damp, it sticks to your shoes and is almost impossible to keep out of the awning!
