Route description for Franconia 2022/2023

Franconia 2022/2023

Saying goodbye to the old year 2022 with a trip and welcoming the new year 2023 is a tradition we have come to love. And it takes us back to beautiful Franconia. Unfortunately we only have 10 days available but we are really looking forward to the trip. After all, we haven't been on the road for six weeks. It's slowly itching in my hands again.

Baden-Baden, Deutschland

The day before the trip we went to pick up our KuBu (Kuschelburg). But don't be afraid! KuBu unlocked - all dead! Engine doesn't make Muchs! The battery is empty. So our Volvo had to jump-start it. Class; now it works - up to the big traffic light in Sinzheim! There the engine switches to the automatic start-stop system because of sheer high spirits. He would have done better. Because again no Muchs and so the two of us became a traffic obstacle.

Thank God a friendly helper stopped and helped to start the car again. And what can I tell you: Another family stopped and brought coffee and a nut croissant from the Sinzheim baker for my helper and me - original sound: "to the shock". That must have impressed my Ducato so much that it lasted until the WoMo parking space in Baden-Baden. All the batteries were charged there so that the next day could start.

Stellplatz am Basilikaplatz

December 28th to 29th, 2022

Everything went well! To be on the safe side, I fully charged the starter battery with my electric charger.

The place is very beautiful. There are countless half-timbered houses. And the basilica is absolutely worth seeing! There is a huge open space in front of the main entrance, where there is also a covered altar. All around is a spacious green area.

Otherwise, Walldürn is very quiet.

If you drive a mobile home >3.5 t, you will be directed to the free parking space (supply and disposal was also possible in winter), depending on where you come from, which brought us more or less admirable views in the alleys.

Stellplatz am Hallenfreibad

December 29th and 30th, 2022

Actually, Miltenberg wasn't planned at all, but we remembered a recommendation when we saw a sign. And so we turned off spontaneously. It wasn't very far either.

We stayed right next to the old town, which turned out to be a bus parking lot that was hardly occupied in winter. So we didn't stay at the specified camper place, which is 350 m further from the old town.

The wonderfully romantic old town and the Miltenburg are absolutely worth seeing - simply fantastic. There are also two great breweries, one with a brewery shop and the pedestrian zone. You just have to go far enough.

And musicians are recommended to visit the Musikhaus. A glance creates a glow in the eyes, especially in the case of percussionists and guitarists. They also have a really good selection of ukuleles.

The butchers delight the hearts of campers and grillers!

Oh yes; there are also other things of "daily" shopping.

So: more than an insider tip!

Camping Main Spessart Park, Spessartstraße, Triefenstein, Deutschland

December 30th to 31st, 2022

First we wanted to go to Wertheim and only then to the Spessart Camping Park.

But in Wertheim there is no water in winter, so disposing of the toilet is also difficult.

The square at the mouth of the Saale is directly under a busy bridge. The place on the other side of the Main is definitely nicer and the footpath across the Main is bearable. You are always out and about with your dog anyway.

We can say more tomorrow.

The campsite, which is open in winter, is located right next to the forest and is quiet. He is highly recommended. The operator is very helpful and friendly. And the sanitary facilities are super clean.

Tonight the Italian gastronomy will be tested.

And we tested them. Everyone is very friendly and the food is great. A pizza with a great crispy crust. Really delicious.
The only thing was that not all the wines on the menu were available and the two remaining reds in the bottle were over €3 more expensive than on the menu.

And the gluten-free rigatoni with minced meat sauce also came with a €3 markup.

But otherwise absolutely recommendable.

Stellplatz am Mainufer

31 to 02/01/2023

This is a wonderful place. Although the water is turned off in winter, no parking fee is charged for this in winter. That's very fair. You can still dispose of the toilet. A pour from the gray water tank is only recommended for rinsing. We just used a bucket.

The location of the square with its view over the Main to Wertheim and its castle is beautiful. The walk across the bridge takes maybe 20 minutes.

So we had a box seat at the fireworks on New Year's Eve. It was awesome.

The old town and the castle are worth seeing. Through a courageous act by two German soldiers during World War II, the city was handed over to the US armed forces without a fight, so that there was no damage. This also saved countless lives. And so we can enjoy a romantic old town today.

We ate at a Mexican where there was delicious food at reasonable prices. A mojito concluded the meal and thus ushered in New Year's Eve.

We will be back definitely.

Stellplatz am Mainufer

2nd to 4th January 2023
Today we went to Kitzingen. There is a Globus hardware store there that also sells Alugas. And there is a card gas station with cheaper prices than other gas stations. And the hardware store was even on the route for us.

The WoMo place is very well maintained. In winter it is advisable to do V+E right at the driveway, because otherwise the water is turned off. For the other seasons it is great that there are water pumps along the squares.

You have a nice view over the Main from the square.

A state horticultural show took place in Kitzingen 11 years ago, which is a blessing for the town. As an extension to the parking space, there was a great green area with numerous play and fitness facilities for young and old. On the other side, the Main can be experienced. Really good.

A hike to Sulzfeld to the Brennfleck winemaker resulted in a nice little wine tasting and our backpacks were filled. Great winemaker that should definitely be visited. If you want to shop a little more, you can park the camper in the parking lot on the street; Mr. Brennfleck is happy to drive the boxes there. A must for wine lovers.

Am Bleichrasen, Hammelburg, Deutschland

04. to 05.01.2023

We know Hammelburg from previous visits to Bad Kissingen. It is the oldest wine village in Franconia.
Unfortunately, our winemaker is closed and some restaurants are also closed. Therefore we will visit Bad Kissingen tomorrow and then spend the night in Bad Bocklet am Kurgarten. We haven't been there yet.

Because of the rain, we decided against a hike to Saaleck Castle in Hammelburg. It's just too cloudy today.

The parking space is located directly at the entrance to the village on the edge of a parking lot. In spring and summer, if you can get a seat in the Saale, you can sit outside. The place has everything you need (water is shut off in winter) and €6 fee is very reasonable. That's why we like to come here.

Bad Kissingen is a traditional health resort and was included in the world heritage together with other spa towns such as Baden-Baden.
On the Main you can go for very nice walks. And the spa facilities. are beautiful. It's a pity that the city doesn't make more of the World Heritage title.

FEs are several pitches. If you want to go to the KissSalisTherme, you can stay overnight there. However, V+E is currently not possible due to construction work. We were there in the summer and found it ok. You have to pay at the cash desk of the thermal baths.
