Stellplatz Michelstadt
We arrive at the pitch in the evening. Free, V+E free, electricity and water for a fee.
It's big, uncomfortable and loud. There is one public toilet which is quite clean.
The nearby supermarket is also a plus.
The way to the city is not far and easy to reach on foot.
We make our way towards the brewery because we are hungry now. The city's most famous building - the historic town hall - is on our way.
The town hall was built in 1484. American visitors can hardly imagine that the building was built before the discovery of America.
Right next door is an imposing baroque building, the former inn "Zum goldenen Löwen". With all the half-timbered buildings, it is completely out of the ordinary due to its architectural style. A richly decorated gate with a golden balcony above adorns the entrance. At times it was used as a post office by Thurn and Taxis. Today the tourist information is housed there.
We pass the town church and the elephant house. The brewery is well stocked, although we're not in the high season and it's Wednesday.
The menu also includes regional dishes, such as boiled cheese schnitzel.
Well fed we take a walk through the manageable city center. Then we stop for a drink in "Franzis Weinerei".
Here we have to learn that the world is a village after all!
Four men are sitting at the next table. After a while I am approached. Am I from Bad Hersfeld? And once worked at G......? I have to say yes to both. The man comes out: Then I was her trainee. I'm floored, I didn't expect that. And I didn't recognize the middle-aged man either. Has changed a lot though. It's going to be another fun evening.

It's going to be a pretty restless night. Trucks drive past us all night. The nearby main road does not necessarily ensure peace and quiet. Maybe I'm too sensitive. And it's only for one night!

Dom Speyer
We make our way to Speyer and park near the banks of the Rhine at the Technik Museum.
That has to do without us today.
The beautiful weather invites us to take a walk along the Rhine. The towers of the cathedral are always our guide from afar. The closer we get, the more impressed we are by this colossal structure.
We decide to climb all the way to the top. €6.50 pp
Quite a lot of steps. Up to the Kaisersaal 90 and then again 214 to the top.
We are rewarded with a fantastic view of the Rhine and the city.
After our descent, we take another look at the cathedral.
Stadtrundgang Speyer
The old town of Speyer invites us to take a stroll. Shops line up one after the other on Maximilianstraße, and the sun invites you to sit in front of cafés and restaurants.
We're not staying too long. Shopping is everywhere.
It goes back to the Rhine. We stop at the "Alten Hammer". Beautiful beer garden with a view of the Rhine and the ships passing by. We enjoy the sunshine with coffee and delicious cake.
Now let's go, the wine tasting is waiting for us.
Weinprobe Deidesheim
Back in Deidesheim we are asked to go to the Stadtvilla Gießen. That alone is worth a visit.
The host guides you through the afternoon in an entertaining and informative way and pours us wine from his own vineyards.
We want to go into town for dinner. It seems to be packed. Deidesheim is a stronghold for weddings. We get rejected everywhere. So the famous Palatinate Saumagen has already been cancelled. We get a seat in "La Taberna", a Spanish restaurant in a vaulted cellar, and are served delicious tapas.
It goes back to the WoMo and we soon fall asleep.

Felsenmeer
A visit to the Felsenmeer was planned.
This is an extraordinary rocky landscape of dark gray quartz diorite. It was already used by the Romans and later also by the local stonemasons for stone extraction.
When we arrive we are asked to pay the stand fee for 24 hours as a parking fee. That seems to us to be a rip-off and we drive off again annoyed.
Hering, Hessen, Germany
Our last day didn't start well, let's see what we can do with it.
We drive in the direction of Hanau and pass near a fortress that I noticed on the way to Hummetroth. It is the Veste Otzburg in Hering.
Since we have time, we will make a stop there.
There is a parking space in Hering that we really like.
We take a walk around the mountain of the Otzburg. Then, when we enter the fortress, we turn to the north side. In the distance you can see the skyline of Frankfurt.
We like the beer garden. There's bratwurst, I can't resist.
It's nice to sit here under the trees.
Something that bothers me is the aircraft noise from the planes taking off from Frankfurt. Whether you can also hear it at the pitch in the WoMo? There is a ban on night flights.
We're on our way home. On the way we pick up some fresh asparagus from a street stand. He will extend our short vacation at home a bit.
